Hindu Family Gifts ₹8 Lakh Land So Muslim Neighbors Can Finally Have Their Own Mosque

In a tiny Punjab village where 18 Muslim families once walked miles for Namaz, one Hindu household turned a piece of farmland into a house of peace.
Punnewal village in Sangrur district is small—quiet lanes, green fields, and people who know each other's names. Among its residents are about 18 Muslim families who have lived here for generations. For years, they carried their prayer mats four kilometres to Kanjhla village every time the call to namaz came. Rain or shine, festivals or ordinary days, the journey was part of life—no complaints, just quiet acceptance.
Then came a simple conversation that changed everything. The local Muslim community shared their longing for a nearby place of worship. Pandit Jaspal Ram and Pandit Ajay Ram, members of a respected Brahmin family, listened closely. The land—a 5-biswa plot (roughly 6,750 square feet), ancestral since their grandfather's time and valued at about ₹8 lakh—had long been in their possession. Without fanfare or second thoughts, they decided: why not give what they could?
The family donated the plot with a clear title transfer—no strings, no conditions—so their neighbors could build a mosque right in Punnewal. The mosque was proudly inaugurated on February 8, 2026, by Shahi Imam of Punjab, Maulana Muhammad Usman Rahmani Ludhianvi.
The handover and inauguration were humble yet joyful: villagers gathered, hands clasped in gratitude, eyes bright with emotion. Pandit Jaspal Ram said simply, "In the absence of a mosque in the village, our Muslim brothers had to go to other villages to offer prayers. We decided to donate our land for a mosque… now they will not have to travel far."
In Punjab's heartland, where land means legacy, this act reminds us that the truest legacy is shared dignity. When neighbors see each other's needs and respond with open hands, villages become stronger than any wall.
